As we welcome the new year, many of us are reflecting on the last 12 months. Maybe a lot has changed for you, or 2022 was a fairly chilled year. One thing that never stops, however, is the ever-changing trend cycle. From haircuts to clothing, homeware to accessories, it seems that what’s popular is moving on so fast that it’s nearly impossible to keep up!
Help is on hand, though. At Attitude Clothing, we’ve been making predictions for what will be trending in the goth world in 2023 with a little help from our tarot cards!
Goth Trends in 2023
Goth business casual
For the corporate goth, there is nothing worse than feeling like you can’t express yourself in the workplace. Fortunately, because this issue is so widespread, the solution has arrived in the form of goth business casual, a mixture of workwear staples peppered with goth accessories. We’re talking cigarette trousers with a studded belt, pencil skirts with chunky boots, and tasteful lace and mesh blouses. You get the idea. It’s all about looking and feeling like yourself while remaining office-appropriate.
Upright: Success, progress, being the best-dressed person at the office.
Reversed: People trying to talk to you when you’re trying to make coffee in peace.
Cowboy and goth: two coolest styles ever? We think so. Combined, they make an aesthetic that probably shouldn’t work but totally does. This is a versatile look that you can personalise to your own taste. You can go all-out, cowboy hat and all, or make more subtle nods to cowboy fashion. Of course, plenty of black is the foundation of any goth fit, then try adding a western-style shirt, tasselled jacket and cowboy boots to inject some goth cowboy goodness into your life. If you’re feeling bold, add a black cowboy hat for an incredible, head-turning look.
Upright: Rootin’, tootin’, shootin’
Reversed: Losing your cowboy hat
Goth kitchen decor
Your gothic home is about to reach new heights with all the incredible goth kitchen decor we’ll see in 2023. The classic goth mug remains, but now you’ll find many accessories to make your kitchen feel like a witch’s lair. We’re talking spooky wall hangings, spiderweb shelves, measuring cups shaped like a cauldron, black cutlery and crockery and everything else your gothic dreams are made of.
Upright: Skills, learning, eating all the cakes you’ve made
Reversed: Dropping your favourite mug
Goth on the runway
Aside from our tarot predictions, we’re pretty sure we’ll see more goth styles in high fashion. The goth style is certainly prevalent on the Spring/Summer ‘23 catwalks. The colour black dominates collections from huge fashion houses like Paco Rabanne, Dolce & Gabbana and Dior.
Elements of goth fashion have found their way into other trends that aren’t meant to be overtly goth-inspired, with big buckles, mesh, and chains being a common sight on the runway. Even Vogue France has commented on the emergence of the so-called “Goth 2.0”.
We can’t wait to see what 2023 holds for goth culture and fashion!
